COMPETENCE+ D/I: Competence Development in Public Transport for more Diversity and Inclusion

How can we foster diversity and inclusion in public transport? How can VR and Gamification be used effectively in professional training? How can we improve the training of soft skills in VET? Our Erasmus+ project develops an innovative training concept for improving skill sets and work environments for employees and trainees of public transport companies, focusing on diversity and inclusion.

About the project

Building on the results of the 2020 Erasmus+ KA2 project Competence+, this project uses innovative teaching methods, including VR scenarios and a computer game, to provide a comprehensible training program focused on diversity and inclusion in public transport. COMP+ D/I will help trainers, staff, and trainees gain a deeper understanding of the importance of living diversity and inclusion in their professional field and everyday life. In the long run, we hope to creating a more inclusive community for all by improving skill sets, work environments, and performances.

The COMP+ approach allows for a flexible and adaptable teaching and learning depending on the respective circumstances. We encourage, support and challenge learners and trainers in this project to use digital technologies for their individual learning process. With COMP+, we offer an opportunity to experience new dimensions of learning and teaching, providing a comprehensive, easy to use, yet interesting and innovative learning program that can easily be integrated in VET and further training contexts in public transport and beyond.

Results

Methodology

The Methodology for the Use of XR and Gamification in VET is a structured approach to the development and delivery of training programs that use XR and Gamification in general and the COMP+ materials specifically.

Workshop

Our Diversity and Inclusion workshop is tailored to public transport employees and trainees. It includes online and face-to-face elements and can be used as a stand-alone workshop or in combination with the other COMP+ workshops on environmental awareness, stress and conflict management, and moral courage.

VR

The COMP+ VR scenarios complement the workshops and allow learners to apply their new knowledge directly in a safe environment. The Diversity and Inclusion scenario will be added during the project.

Game

To make COMP+ more widely available, we develop a computer game based on the 5 COMP+ workshops which can be used as part of a workshop or as a learning experience for individual learners.

The Erasmus+ project Competence+: A blended learning programme for competence development beyond pure professional skills ran from 2020-2023. In this project, the partnership developed a blended learning program for trainees and employees of public transport companies in the fields of environmental awareness, conflict management, stress management, and moral courage. This included an e-learning platform and VR scenarios, in which the participants of the workshops can practice their new skills in a safe virtual environment.
